5th Vienna Biomaterials Symposium

The 5th Vienna Biomaterials Symposium will take place from 19.-21.11.2012. This year the symposium is jointly organized by Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) and University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU). In order to ensure that clinical aspects of biomaterials research are covered, the Medical University of Vienna is represented in the program committee.

The symposium aims at giving a broad overview of biomaterials from the viewpoint of materials science as well as from a clinical perspective. In addition natural biomaterials are considered as inspiration for artificial biomaterials.

The target audience of the conference includes medical scientists, (bio)chemists, biologists as well as engineers.

Institute of Materials Science and Technology

Presently, more than 60 researchers from several countries are working at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology in various applied and basic research projects.

Research at the Institute covers the entire spectrum of engineering materials going from metallic materials to polymers and ceramics and composite materials. Strong emphasis in our work is laid on experimental investigation of materials behavior, however, accompanied by sound physical modeling of the microstructure evolution during processing and service.

The Institute is responsible for the education in the field of materials science, with students from Chemical and Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Business Science, as well as Materials Science.
